The Aussie Miracle Moist line is one I’ve been using on my hair for years. It is affordable and easy to find, but is it really any good? Let’s talk about the ingredients, who this shampoo might benefit and why, and let’s get started!
Is this shampoo sulfate-free?
NO. This shampoo is not sulfate free, it contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) & Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). These are harsh detergents that are meant to strip all buildup and oils on your scalp, and they do this WELL. Your hair will feel squeaky clean after using this shampoo.
So when should I use a shampoo with sulfates?
When you need a good clarify of course! I always recommend using a clarifying shampoo at least once a month to remove any buildup a gentler shampoo might not be able to catch.
Now since this is such a harsh cleanser, pay attention to any irritation or excessive dryness you may experience after using this shampoo. Make sure to go in afterwards with a moisturizing deep conditioner or similar product to help rehydrate your strands.
Speaking of, don’t apply this shampoo to the length of your hair. The dirtiest part of our hair is our scalp, and that’s where you should focus, allow it to clean your strands by letting it rinse downwards.
Is there anyone that shouldn’t use this shampoo?
Yes! You do not need to use this shampoo if you have a sensitive scalp or color-treated hair. The sulfates in this shampoo will strip your hair color like nobodies business, and if you have a sensitive scalp then in general you should be avoiding very harsh cleansers like this, or using them far and few between.
The Good
This product is super affordable, you really get a lot of bang for your buck, one of the reasons I’ve been a loyal customer for years.
This is a great clarifying shampoo, and just about everyone needs a clarifying shampoo in their routine as a (monthly) reset.
My hair feels squeaky clean but not stripped after using this shampoo, but I also almost always apply an oil treatment before shampooing.
…And the Bad
While the sulfates can be great for getting rid of buildup, be wary of using this too often. I would not recommend this as an everyday/every other day shampoo. Stick to something gentler for everyday, and use this bad boy once every few weeks or when you’re feeling extra greasy and need a good reset.
If you have color treated hair, this shampoo may not be for you as you’ll notice your color fade very quickly.
If you have a sensitive scalp or sensitivities to fragrance or alcohol, I would avoid this shampoo.
In summary
This is a great clarifying shampoo to include sparingly in your routine, and it’s worth giving a try if you do not have a fresh dye job or sensitive scalp.
Remember to pair this with something very hydrating afterwards; this shampoo is taking away all your product buildup, leaving you with a clean canvas to really moisturize your hair, so take advantage of that!
You almost can’t beat the price of this shampoo, and the range of products Aussie has is amazing, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Let me know if there are any other products you’d like a review on, but be sure to check out what we have, we might have already done it!
